Emerging Issues

An emerging issue that is interesting me from this book is drugs. Chapter 3: Alcohol and Other Drugs gives us good insight on all the social problems stemming from drugs and alcohol. Recently movements all around the US are coming up with a War Against Meth. There are commercials on MTV, posters around towns, Meth projects forming including the Not Even Once campaign. There are several things out there to educate youth about this growing epidemic. I choose this as my emerging issue because unlike problems in the environment and world hunger, the issue with Meth can be seen every day at home or at your school. It also can be helped by each individual by being aware and not using drugs. It is hard sometimes to no support things such as pollution if you aren't aware of what you are doing. However, you are aware if you are abusing drugs and  you don't have to wait until the next generation to see it directly effecting you. Everyone that abuses Meth will see a negative change in their lifetime, directly effecting them, causing harm on their life and they can put a stop to it.

Sometimes problems seems bigger than you could handle, and no matter how hard you try it feels like you can't make a difference. Sometimes if you litter or don't donate to a charity, it may only make a small difference and a bad outcome wouldn't be all your fault. Well I feel the case is different in drug use. You have a choice in using or not. You can make a difference, and if you choose to turn your head at the negative outcomes that could be caused by your actions, bad things will happen and it will be your choice.
